TRAINING

Since 1997, Sexual Assault Services of Midcoast Maine has addressed many issues and produced outcomes that have improved our system’s response to sexual violence against individuals with cognitive disabilities. We learned together as a multi-disciplinary team and fostered necessary collaborations to provide a coordinated community response.

“If I Tell”  is a training video that addresses the needs of survivors with cognitive disabilities and is completely accessible with quality audio, American Sign Language, closed captioning and VG.

The film was written by a team of stakeholders, area agencies and the people they serve. The film presents three vignettes modeling contacting and reporting to local law enforcement, saying “No” to staff and continuing to speak up even if no one believes a sex crime occurred. Each story will have several issues that can facilitate learning.

“If I Tell” can be used alone with the Facilitator Guide or as a supplement to a comprehensive training program on sexual violence against people with disabilities.
